Without question the MAIN EVENT is a thrill of a lifetime. I was able to play with some of the great players in the world and almost,just almost made it to the third day. Out of 6800 players I believe I was out about number 1789 so at least I have the consolation of besting at least 5000 other players from around the world
I got in to the MAIN EVENT by winning a satellite at my home casino the Sands in Michigan now the Turtle Creek casino also in Michigan,so I suffered no out of pocket loss at all. This is not true for many of those who played.
On the first day of play,I was at a table with two people I got to know, Glen who had gotten to the final table in 2005 and a fellow by the name of Jim from Indiana.. Glem paid his own way from his previous winnings, I had won my seat but Jim had been convinced by his buddies in Indiana that he had the ability to compete,so he took $25,000 of his own money and paid for his entry and his stay.
All three of us made it to second day but Glen got out early and Jim followed suit a few hours later. When Jim went out he literally cried,having staked his fortunes on an idle dream. This is true of at least 6791 of the players who did not make the final table.
